The Coast Towers are a characteristic thing of all the coasts of Sardinia and partcularly of this area. Most of them were built around 1500 to defend the territory. On the promontory of Capo Falcone there are several coast towers:

  • The Pelosa Tower is obviously the most famous one and in
    La Torre Pelosa
the last 20 years has become almost an icon, the symbol itself of the Pelosa beach; it is located on a very small isle in front of the beach that from this tower took its name. Built in 1578, it is now in a quite bad state of preservation. From the architectonic point of view this tower is a cylindrical single-storey stone building, with a mushroom-shaped vault; it is 6 mt. high with the entrance at the height of 3 meters.

  • The Falcone Tower dominates the promontory from a height
    La Torre del Falcone
of 189 mt. It was built in 1577 and, on the contrary of the Pelos Tower, it has a very good state of preservation. It has a frustum shape and is a single-storey building with a diameter of 8.9 mt. and a dome-shaped vault. It can be reached with some difficulties by foot or with a jeep.

  • The Tower of the Piana Island is obviously on the homonymous little island in front of the Pelosa beach, then reachable only by sea. It was built between 1525 and 1931 and restored in 1578. It is a cylindrical two-storey building, the first with a dome-shaped vault and the second with a mushroom-shaped one; it has a diameter of 16 meters and reaches the considerable height of 18 mt. Its internal structures are unfortunately tottering.
  • The Saline Tower is located on the Saline beach very close
    La Torre delle Saline
to the Casaraccio Pond. It was built around the 1570. It is a cylindrical two-storey building, with a dome-shaped vault. It is 8 mt.high with a diameter of 6 mt. with entrance at 4 meters from the soil.

  • The Trabuccato Tower is a tower of those located on the Asinara, to the North-East of Cala Reale. It was built in 1535 and restored in 1578 and it has a good state of preservation; it is a cylindrical single-storey building, with a dome-shaped vault.

  • The Tower of Cala d'Oliva is another tower of Asinara, obviously in the bay of Cala d'Oliva. It was built between 1535 and 1578 and restored in 1610. It has a cylindric shape.

  • The Tower of Cala d'Arena is located in the homonymous bay in the Asinara Island. It was built between 1535 and 1578 and restored in 1605.
