The
village of Stintino
was founded in 1885 by Sardinian farmers

and fishers of Genoa after
they had been evicted from Asinara island
when it became
a penal colony.
The village develops around two inlets in which were installed two
small ports for fishing boats, crafts and yachts.
The older and smaller port is called "Minori" a Sardinian
dialect word that means little, while the newer one on the contrary
is called "Mannu" [large].
The economy of Stintino is based on the activity of these two ports
and, of course, on tourism; in summer the village gets crowed with
thousands of turists that can find at Stintino modern
accomodations,

but also simply for a walk
in a village that is still keeping the
charm of the old village of sailors even if with all the services
necessary to support the high turist flow. During summer season
there are frequent initiatives of entertainment for tourists and
resident people. Among the various events, folklore shows, musical
evenings and the last week of August probably the most important
event, the regatta of latin sail. Noteworthy
is the museum of "Tonnara" at
the new port. |
