Guided
Visit To The Sella & Mosca Museum
The museum
is inside the wine estate Sella and
Mosca in the locality Piani di Sotgiu near Alghero. It has
an archaeologic section dedicated completely
to the necropolis of Anghelu
Ruju, the most important and large prehistoric necropolis of Sardinia
that, when was discovered,
it was entirely located within the estate boundaries. Only later
it was donated to the town
council.
Obviously the most important and large part of the museum is
dedicated to the history of the Company starting from
1899 when the wine company was founded.
The visit is guided, but free of charge. Through the visit's route
you can appreciate the value in terms of witness of past cultures
that exhibited objects bring to us. In the meantime a visit
to the wine cellars shows you the wine-making
process and what is the Company vision.

| An
old press in the museum |
You can run over the history
of the company in its first 40 years
of life through the witness of exceptional photographs of
Vittorio Sella (grandson of Quintino Sella)
that was a founder of the Company together with the lawyer Mosca.
In 1899 Sella and Mosca bought 15 hectares of soil in the locality
Nuraghe Maiore; soon they could add progressively
several hundreds of hectares.
Many photographs lead you through the difficult first years of life
of the company, the land reclamation and the fight against the phylloxera
until nowadays.
In the museum are shown presses and millstones
of the first years and besides, as said, several very interesting
photos of the first thirty years of activity. As regards the archeaologic
part of the museum there are photos, copies of jewels and old tools
found in the necropolis of Anghelu Ruju. The original ones are retained
in the museums of Sassari and Cagliari.
At the end of the visit you will be able to taste a glass
of wine offered by the Company.
