La Pelosa is one of the most beautiful beaches of Sardinia,
The sea of Pelosa beach
but a lot of people now considered it one of the most attractive places in Italy -and not only in Italy- for the beauty of the sea. Its cyan color and transparencies and the very fine white sand makes it looking like a tropical beach rather than a mediterranean one. Besides absence of tropical fishes, vegetation remind us we are in Sardinia; not palms, but meditteranean scrub just outside the beach but in some cases also on the beach itself.
Located in the Asinara gulf to the North-East of Capo Falcone, La Pelosa beach is protected from the open sea by a natural
barrier made by the stacks of Capo Falcone, by the Piana island e by Asinara island (you can find a picture in the page <Stintino & outskirts>).

The Pelosa Tower in front of the beach

The sea is always flat also when the mistral, rather frequent in these places, blows. In front of the beach there is the very small isle with the characteristic aragonese tower of Pelosa built in 1578 for defending the coastal and that gives the name to the beach. It is reacheable by foot following a natural ford. Beyond you can see another small island called Piana that was used in the past as
pasture for livestock; the animals (tipically cows) was taken to the island by swimming dragged by a boat due to the nearness of the island to the coast. This island is still a private estate. To the same direction, beyond the island Piana you can distinguish the profile of the rocky coast of Asinara.
