| In this area the water
fauna is particularly rich. The fact that
for many years there was no admittance in the island of Asinara
and also in the sea all around the island, is the main reason why
the sea depth around the island was not violated and consequently
the sea fauna was preserved.
Among the different species that populates the sea
in this area, we must mention the so much celebrated lobster.
But the marine park of the Asinara is
particularly important also for the 18 species of cetaceans among
which there are the stenella, the
common dolphin, the grampo,
the common finner and the capodoglio.
In this area the cetaceans are more than double of other areas
of the Mediterranean sea. Also some species of sharks are present
off the coasts of Capo Falcone and
sometimes some exemplars ventured into the channel between the
Piana island and the Asinara.
